History of Yamatoya

Explore the authentic Japanese parenting style.

Founded in 1924 by the Ota family in Aichi, Japan. Right from the start, the company engaged in the manufacturing of wooden furniture and its storage units were very popular at that time. During the 1950s, Japan has entered into the baby boomer phase. Led by Mr. Akio Ota, Yamatoya started focusing its development on baby and kids furniture including cot beds, baby high chairs and book racks, which all became very popular among Japanese families. Many young Japanese at that time grew up using Yamatoya furniture, making it a truly national brand.

Starting from 2010, Yamatoya products were being carried by distributors in several Asian markets including South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia… Tavolo has become Yamatoya’s sole distributor in Hong Kong since 2014 and its signature products such as Buono Amice desk sets, Norsta series and Affel high chairs have been very popular among the Hong Kong parents.
